Press Release

Nov. 2 Registration Deadline Quickly Approaching for Virtual Learning Academy Charter High School Free to Students Who Live in NH; Limited Openings for College-Prep, Honors and AP Courses

Exeter, NH – New Hampshire high school students have only two weeks to enroll in College Prep, Honors and AP courses offered by NH’s first statewide on-line high school, the Virtual Learning Academy Charter School. Registration for the Academy’s January 2008 semester ends Friday, November 2. The Virtual Learning Academy is an approved New Hampshire public school and is tuition free to high school students who live in New Hampshire. Students may view the course catalog and register at www.vlacs.org.

Limited courses openings are available for the January 2008 semester. Students may choose from 26 courses to supplement or complement their existing curriculum. Courses selections include: Computer Programming-Basic I; Spanish I and II; English I thru IV; Algebra 1a, 1b, I; AP Calculus AB; Geometry; Pre-Calculus; Personal Fitness; AP Biology; Biology; Earth Science; Marine Science; Physics; American Government; American History; AP Microeconomics; AP Macroeconomics; Economics; World History; and SAT Prep. Honors-level courses are available for most of these classes.

Students will be assigned a teacher advisor who maintains regular contact with the student and parent. Additional information for students and parents is available on the Academy’s web site at www.vlacs.org/studentsparents.html.

The Virtual Learning Academy benefits high school students who attend school districts that do not have the student population or funding to offer honors and AP classes in various subjects. Another advantage is the Academy’s accessibility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. This supports students who have work or internship schedules that conflict with classes offered in a traditional school.

NH certified teachers, who are deemed highly qualified according to state standards, will teach the Academy’s courses. Teachers who are interested applying for employment at the Virtual Learning Academy Charter School are encouraged to complete an on-line job application at www.vlacs.org/employment.html.

To register for the Virtual Learning Academy’s January 2008 semester please visit www.vlasc.org. Registration ends Friday, November 2. All courses are free to high school students who live in New Hampshire.
